New Mexico Drivers Insurance Companies Notification Letters Insurance Verification Citizen Forms Q & A

A vehicle that has not been identified as insured for 30 days will be sent a notification letter, informing the vehicle owner that they are not reflected as insured on the database. The notification letter will identify the vehicle that is registered but not insured, and provides the owner with specific actions required to rectify the vehicle's insurance status.

Vehicle owners who receive uninsured notifications, but have proper insurance coverage in force, should refer to the Insurance verification page for instructions on how to have the Insurance Identification Database (IIDB) updated to properly reflect insurance coverage for their vehicles. Vehicle owners who receive uninsured notifications may request a hearing within twenty (20) days after the date of the mailing demanding proof of liability insurance. If the owner does not respond to the notification letter within thirty (30) days, the owner will have the vehicle registration suspended. A Link to the Hearing Request Form is below, or the form may be obtained at any MVD office.

Drivers who provide fraudulent proof of insurance documents to the program may be prosecuted according to the State of New Mexico's fraud statutes.
